What I’m Reading: October 6, 2014

Articles I’d recommend for social journalism edification:

  • A little birdie told me: RJI’s state of the union for Twitter in newsrooms in 2014. Includes great examples of how Twitter has made a difference in newsrooms across the country.
  • Steve Buttry joins the fray in debating the implications of newsroom brass ignoring social media. (Catch up with Buzzfeed’s original article and Mathew Ingram’s summary of the debate.)
  • Poynter has a great primer on how media organizations should (and should not) use Snapchat.
  • Looks like The Newsroom’s new season will address the Boston Marathon bombings, and they are sure to have some very fast-paced conversations about the ethics and best practices of social media journalism.
